Barnstormer....
I'm a word nerd. This is something I've learned about myself in the last few years. This week, we've been reading a Heroes of History book about George Washington Carver. One of the vocabulary words grabbed all of our attention. It was "Barnstormer". We all fondly thought of the Barnstormer ride at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. In the past, while standing in Fantasyland, I've had the thought "oh, Goofy is just riding a plane through the barn." Therefore he is literally a barnstormer. So when I looked up this word in Dictionary.com, I found that one of the definitions is "of a pilot, to give exhibitions of stunt flying, participate in airplane races in the course of touring country towns and rural areas." So in essence The Great Goofini is racing through the country performing his stunt flying and it just happens to coincide with a barn. I love this! The Disney Imagineers don't miss anything! So the next time you ride Barnstormer, now you'll know how the theme and the name is tied together. And I have a feeling that you'll now remember just one of the definitions for "barnstormer."
