UHURU....

This may seem like just any typical bench at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but it is NOT! As a matter of fact, in all of our trips to Disney, I have never seen it, because, well, there’s always people sitting on it.

Let me tell you a story and a fun fact… We were strolling in the Harambe/Africa area of Animal Kingdom early in the morning with no one else around and my husband spotted this bench. When he brought it to my attention, I got emotional! You see, “UHURU” is the Swahili word for “FREEDOM” and it means so much to me. I have climbed to the highest point in all of Africa, to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, to UHURU PEAK (which took 6 days climbing up, and 2 down!). On all my trips to Tanzania, I have stayed at Uhuru Hostel and hold that place dear in my heart. So, you can imagine what this meant to me when I saw it. My heart was full, and I felt as if I had stepped into a place that I love, even if for just a moment. It was also a wonderful lesson for our girls, and is officially my favorite spot in Animal Kingdom.

If people wonder why I love Disney so much, it is because you can step into a park and be totally immersed into another country/world.
